First can you say your name and what you do in the
band?
My name is Jag and I'm the lead singer of A Skylit Drive.
How's this tour going for you?
It's going pretty well. It's only been about a week already. The first week
is always the hardest.
You have a new album coming out, Adelphia, in
June. Are you playing any new material?
No. We're not going to be playing any songs from Adelphia until Warped Tour.
You are on this years Warped Tour. How stoked
are you on that and what are you looking forward to most?
We are so excited. We've seen all our favorite bands on that tour. The most
exciting thing about it is that it's the tour we would go to with our
friends every summer and be like I need to be on this tour one day. You know
you've accomplished something when you do the Vans Warped Tour.
You recorded Adelphia back in February. How did
you approach this album in comparison to Wires?
We spent more time on it and made sure everyone got what they wanted out of
it. We wrote every song as a group. We brought everyone's parts to the table
and if somebody didn't like something we would work on it, nobody was
singled out. So everything on the album, everyone got to approve if it was
going on the record. It was more A Skylit Drive than we thought we could
make it. It's everything we want as an album.
The original title of the album was Glaciers.
What prompted the name change?
Our buddy Craig in Chiodos has a side project called Isles & Glaciers and we
didn't want to do anything that could be compared to anything else. We
didn't want people to be like "oh they toured with Chiodos and now they're
going to call their cd something similar". We just want our album to be our
album and not have them think of anything else. They hear Adelphia and that
it.
Who did the album artwork?
My buddy Andy. I went to high school with him. He just stared doing bands
album artwork, we're actually his first band. I was really amped to use him
because I knew with him doing it it would look like no one else's art. Now
I'm sure a lot of people are going to want to use him.
You had a DVD come out late last year. What was
it like working on that and how did you get it to be distributed exclusively
through Hot Topic?
The second part of the question, our label owner would be the only one to
know. Well, our last label owner at Tragic Hero. That's a reason we did it.
We wanted to have this exclusive product and it was too soon to do a new cd
so we said lets do a live dvd with funny footage of us hanging out. Our
original idea was to have Jeffree Star interview us but he was busy so we
had our buddy Dave Shapiro, our booking agent to it, which was awesome. It
wasn't that much work, it was just one show. A camera crew followed us in
our van from a show, I don't remember where, to the Glasshouse and then from
Glasshouse to Fresno or the other way around, I don't remember.
What has it been like recently switching
labels?
It's been great so far. We felt that we did everything that we could do on
Tragic Hero and they did for us what they could do so we had to move up to
someone who could take the weight and have what was needed to get the proper
promotion and everything. It's been great so far and things are running
smoothly. No complaints on our end.
You filmed a video for To Write Love On Her
Arms, what was like woking with them and what keeps bringing bands back to
work with them?
They're such a nice group of people. There is nothing wring with their
personalities, they're just the sweetest people to work with. The whole time
they're just thanking you and being stoked about every single shot. They had
to hear that song just as many times as we did. Every shot they looked as
stoked as the first time. It was definitely a fun experience to work with
them.
That's all. Any last words for the fans and
readers?
June 9th, our new album Adelphia comes out. Go pick it up, take a listen,
and come check us out on Warped Tour.
