Burden of a Day First off can you state your name and what you do in the band? My name is Jesse Hostetler and I play drums Where does the name Burden of a Day come from? It actually comes from an old Hymn "Beneath the cross of Jesus" How did you guys hook up with Blood and Ink Records? Well they first saw us play at Cornerstone Florida (festival) in 2005 and we had talked with them there. Then a few weeks later we sent them a press pack and rest worked its way out. You just released your debut full length "Pilots and Paper Planes", How was the recording process for that? Basically we had mapped out what we wanted to do before heading in to the studio so once we got in there things seem to go pretty smooth. We just started with the drums and then went from there. The biggest problem for us was just needing more time to tie up some loose ends but I know every band says that. Do you have a certain method to writing songs? Well Josh Sommers (Guitarist) is a big part to the process. He usually comes up with an outline to a song and then everyone chips in from there. Every once in awhile we just write a song just from messing around and if we like it then we move on from there. Do you feel your faith influences your music? There is something very passionate about music and us all being Christians it is only natural for us to want to share that in our music. Who did the artwork for the cd? Myk Karasek at Harmonies madness design lab How would you describe your sound? The dreaded question everyone hates to answer. We just love to have fun and we hope some of that comes through our music so just happy hardcore i guess you could say. You just finished up the Blood and Ink tour not that long ago. How was that? It was a lot of fun and also a good learning time for us. That for sure was the most we have traveled going from Florida to Seattle and back. It had its ups and downs but the other bands Enlow and The Gentlemen Homicide really made it feel like a big happy family. Besides our van blowing an engine in Montana of all places it was good. How is the new material being received live? Its crazy to go through different states and seeing kids coming out to our shows and singing along. It really is a good feeling. How come "Guinevere Cries Tonight" didn't make the cd? Basically we felt it was not strong enough for the record. Sometimes you just have to make decisions based on what you feel is best for record as a whole. What can someone who has never seen you live expect at one of your shows? We love to use every space that a stage might give us. It is basically slightly controlled chaos i guess you could say but it really is just about having fun and making the fans feel apart of it. If you could play with any three artists, past or present, who would they be? Wow another ruff one Well number 1. The Refused no.2 As cities Burn and 3. Ashlee Simpson How does it feel to be ranked as one of the top 10 screamo bands on an independent label on Myspace? Really its an Honor for us. We get so excited to see kids from far and wide listening to our music. These kids blow me away to just to see how loyal they are. We really owe them so much. Who has been your favorite band to play with so far? My personal favorite isn't a band its a poet. That we met over in Germany and then played a show or two back in the states and that would be Bradley Hathway. What are your touring plans for the rest of the year? We have a tour in July which leads us into some festivals including cornerstone fest. in ill. and sonshine fest in Minn. After that we will be touring out most of the year and hopefully either late this year or early next year a possible UK tour. Florida is know for beaches, mosquitoes, and retirement. Why is it that there are so many good bands from Florida? haha I think every guy picks up a guitar at a young age trying to swoo some girl out at a beach. No really its just so boring down here that you have to find something to keep you entertained. If you weren't playing music, what would you be doing with your life? I would like to say traveling the world but most likely would be doing Construction work. I'm trying my best to avoid that as long as I can. Thanks for taking the time to do this. Do you have any last words for the readers? If there is one thing that the readers get out of this interview. I hope it is this, never fly with snakes on a plane. |
