Cursing in Braille Tour - Jannus Landing, St. Petersburg, FL

This show was a guilty pleasure of mine. The line up was Foxy Shazam, Kill Hannah, and Mindless Self Indulgence. Before this night I had not seen any of these bands live so it was all new to me.

Foxy Shazam started off the night and it took me a while to figure out if I liked them. I mean, there stage presence was great, but I just couldn’t figure out their sound. They are very eclectic. They mix so many elements into their sound. Their stage show is good too. The singer was either on drugs or is completely nuts. Possibly both. Everyone else in the band does their fair share of moving around as well. They played for what seemed like forever Actually, they played a longer set than Kill Hannah. I would go see them again.

So Kill Hannah are going to be the next big thing with thirteen year old girls. They all look like girls, and wear more make up than most girls. Their sound is rather bland, but they have a few good songs. They were able to get out all of their good songs because they only played five songs. Of those five, the included “Welcome to Chicago”, “Lips Like Morphine”, and their cover of Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell”. I found them to be quite boring. They seemed as if they were more worried about their make up running than putting on a good show. They young kids ate it up though.

I was not prepared for the chaos that is Mindless Self Indulgence. They put on the best show I have ever seen. Plain and simple. Right off the bat they played “Shut Me Up”, the first track off of their latest cd, “You’ll Rebel to Anything”. There was not one moment where anyone on the stage was still. Vocalist Little Jimmy Urine is absolutely crazy. The entire set, which was well over an hour, he was running from one side of the stage to the other and leaping off of different objects almost the whole time. At one point, he even sang a song in his boxers. It was an insane performance and I think everyone should listen to them and check them out live.
