Deadlock- Wolves (Lifeforce)
Alright, I have grown completely bored of most of today's Melodic Death
Metal bands. This genre has been around for a long time, and has certainly
flourished and thrived, yet I have not heard anything new, fresh or original
come out for quite some time. I really don't like to see a particular style
of music to fade out, or become a bore, but unfortunately this becomes the
case in most genres. Sure they may come back bigger and better, but that's
the future, this is now. So I present you with a fresh album to sort of
save, in my opinion, the melodic death metal scene. Here is Deadlock with
their stunning new album "Wolves."
Breaking boundaries left and right on this new disc, Deadlock have been
around for some time now, and have been a driving force in the German metal
scene. They already have some great albums under their belt, but in my
opinion nothing quite as excellent as this. I feel that every song on this
album is great in any way. There are superb mixtures of sheer brutality,
mixed with extremes of true beauty. This new album presents us with the full
time membership of once part time keyboardist/vocalist Sebine Weniger, in
which she showcases her excellent voice off in nearly every track. Also
lending her voice off to an incredible ender to the album, in which she
really expresses her talent in a track completely by herself. I really love
the mixture of Death Metal, Pop (all Sebine's catchy vocal choruses), and
even Techno. The guitar work is amazing, perfectly flawless, heavy and
technical, the drumming is fittingly brutal and paced throughout every
track, and the key's/programming adds a perfect balance to this melodic
mixture. The death metal vocals are fittingly amazing as well. I especially
like the Techno/Dance breakdown of my favorite track "End Begins," because
it shows that they are willing to go far beyond their metal roots.
Much to my surprise, this album has not been getting the greatest reviews,
which is a complete shocker to me. I'm sorry if you "true" elitists have a
problem with a female vocalist mixed in with your metal, but that makes this
band something to be dealt with. Just because a band wants to make a change,
or further themselves, that doesn't mean they are sellout's or do not
deserve your attention anymore. I personally love this album, and I hope
that Deadlock have a very long prosperous career. If you can't open your
minds to a metal band because they have some poppy female vocals, or a
little bit of electronica is just plain ignorant. Open your ears and minds,
this is an amazing album and they are here to stay.
