Becoming the Archetype - Dichotomy (Solid State)
I will be the first to admit that I never really gave this band a chance
when I first heard them a few years ago. I went into listening to this album
for the first time thinking I was about to get into another generic
Christian metalcore album and boy was I wrong. Dichotomy hit me like a ton
of bricks to the face. Lyrical content aside, this is one evil album. I
wouldn't go as far as calling this album blackened death metal, but it
definitely has it moments of those genres. A lot of moments. Dichotomy
features some of the eeriest keys you will ever hear (Deep Heaven) and some
of the sickest blast beats this side of hell. Breaking apart the album
nicely is the instrumental track St. Anne's Lullaby, which is followed
nicely by Ransom. The lyrics on the album are very heavily based on
Christianity, but that shouldn't discourage anyone from listening to this
album. This is definitely not an album that should be cast aside, as noted
by getting some critical acclaim in other web and print magazines. Clocking
in at around an hour with ten tracks, Dichotomy is not only perfect in sound
and musicianship, but also in length. Becoming the Archetype really
delivered with this release and should lead to them having a huge year in
2009.
