Gojira- From Mars to Sirius (Prosthetic)
What is Gojira? What do they mean, and what do they stand for?...Who
cares, they're French and that sucks to
begin with. This band stole their name from the real translation for
Godzilla (lame series of movies). I can hardly get into this band in any sense. They do not keep my attention for more
than 30 seconds. It is not that they are untalented, and or sloppy, it is just that they are extremely boring. I would
have to say, just to be fair, is that they are good at what they do.
Everything sounds preciously clear and precise. It sounds as if they
know what the
want, and get the job done. That still does not constitute a good album.
This IS metal, but at it's most boring attempt. The musicianship is flawless, and I can see that they know what they are
doing. But it lacks originality. To me this just sounds like stoner metal, yes it is metal, but instead of it
being intense with maybe a slow and or melodic part to set the mood it is the opposite. It extremely slow, with
the occasional hint of brutality and so forth. It will not please the stereotypical metal head. It is just not intense
enough. To me it sounds like a nature conscious version of Nerosous or Eyehategod. It's doom/sludge metal at it's best.
The only audience that I can see listening
to this is metal heads who smoke a lot of pot. I feel that this is the
most risky attempt to sell an album brought to you by Prosthetic records, considering their very profitable brutal metal
attempts. I see this album as something being passed as a way to diverse from the pack but I feel that the path that
they have been on is more credible. I applaud you for the risk, but this album is not something the average brutal
metal fan can appreciate. Stick with
the chaos, and you will succeed. This album intended for
sludge/doom/stoners only. Listen at your own risk.
