Interview with Kasey, guitarist of Here I Come
Falling. Interview conducted January 16, 2008 outside of
Transitions art Gallery in Tampa, FL.

First off can you state your name and what you do
in the band?
My name is Kasey and I play guitar
How did the band come together?
We were all in other bands in high school and we decided we wanted to start
a Christian band because we didn’t have one around. Me and Parker, our other
guitarist are the two original members. We’ve gone through three drummers
since the beginning.
How did you guys land on the name Here I Come
Falling?
We went through a bunch of different band names. Whenever we started to take
the band serious we decided that we needed to come up with a name. We were
going through all of our old songs and lyrics, and we had a song called Here
I Come Falling which was like a piano song. It was real soft. It talked
about how every time you fall down God is right there to catch you. We all
agreed on that.
Your album, Oh Grave, Where Is Thy Victor just
came out. Can you tell us a little bit about the album?
We had three of the songs done when we started. They were older songs of
ours. We just added to those and did some production work. We were actually
on the road when we got signed. After shows we would mess around with ideas
for songs. When we got home we just got together and wrote every chance that
we could.
There’s a diversity of sounds in the album. Who
are some of the bands biggest influences?
When we first started we were a lot softer and we started out as a pop band.
When we decided to go heavier, Underoath was a really big influence on us.
Later on we went with the Underoath sound, but heavier and with more
breakdowns. The Devil Wears Prada were an influence too. We just wanted to
mix the sound of those two and go from there.
Where does the title of the album come from?
We didn’t have a name when we went into the studio. We couldn’t come up with
anything and it was our first one so we wanted something we could all agree
on. It was actually some friends from home who shot us the idea. It’s a
verse out of Corinthians in the Bible and talks about when God is going to
come back and get all of his people. When he comes back he fights off death
and pulls everyone from the grave. Once death has been overcome then it
can’t hold victory over us anymore.
How is this tour going?
This tour is going pretty good. We don’t really fit in that well, but the
kids are responding really good. We’re having a lot of fun with the guys
from Once Nothing and A Plea For Purging.
How did you guys hook up with Rise Records?
We went out on our first tour this past summer. We went on two tours in a
row. After we came back from the second tour we played a hometown show with
The Devil Wears Prada. We had met them at Cornerstone previously. After the
show, their drummer Daniel came up to us and asked if we were interested in
Rise. He had us give him our Myspace link and he hit up Rise. After about a
week the old booking agent for Emarosa hit them up too. We ended up talking
with some people at Rise and ended up with a contract in our email.
What can someone who has never seen you live
expect at one of your shows?
We’ve always put a lot of emphasis on our live shows. We try to put on the
craziest live show that we can. It always depends on the size of the stage,
but we try to work it out and have our guitar tricks.
How does your faith influence your music?
We started the band because we wanted to have a Christian band. Ever since
then we have set some more standards. At the beginning we wanted to
stick with the hardcore sound and have gone through a lot of members because
of it. We have a young fan base and we just want to be the best examples to
them as we can. We want to be good examples of God.
If you could play a show with any three
artists, past or present, who would they be?
It would be Underoath, The Devil Wears Prada, and old As Cities Burn.
What are your plans for after this tour?
After this tour we are going to head home for a couple of weeks and then we
are going to hit the road with Inhale Exhale, Gwen Stacy, and A Girl A Gun A
Ghost. It’s going to be East Coast shows.
What is the scene like back in Springfield?
When we started it was a real hardcore scene. We would get thrown on
hardcore and metal shows where all the bands were way heavier than us. We
just never fit in. Since we got signed, I’ve noticed more metalcore bands
pop up. It’s gotten a lot better.
That’s all. Any last words for the fans and
readers?
Come out to a show and pick up a cd if you want.
