Oh Sleeper - When I Am God
Having been a fan of this band from the time I heard “The Armored March”
I was anticipating Oh, Sleeper’s new album “When I Am God” quite a bit.
After getting this release and listening to it for about a week non
stop, I realized just how great this band is. You cant go wrong with an
album when you’re only 35 seconds into the first track and there’s
sweeps. Guitarists Shane Blay and James Erwin are all over the place
with sweeps, catchy - melodic riffs, and of course the chug we have all
become accustomed to in the metal world. The ferocious vocal styling of
Micah Kinard are similar to those of Josh Scrogan (The Chariot, ex Norma
Jean) and they fill this album with raw emotion. The lyrical content is
similar to that of The Armored March, focusing strongly on religion. My
only problem with this album is that it isn’t all new material, as they
re recorded all of The Armored March and threw in another 6 new songs.
In essence, this is just two EP’s put together. Aside from that, this
album is flawless. Tracks like I Will Become the Reaping and Flagship
are strong points on When I Am God. Another solid signing by Solid State
Records. Do yourself a favor and go check this album out.
