This show was one that I have been looking forward to for a few months now. One
of my favorite bands was on
the bill, and one of the best metalcore bands was on the bill. This show also
changed my outlook on what a live
show should be (see Fall of Troy).
Criteria were an odd choice as an opening band for this show. They were not
nearly as heavy as any of the other
bands on this tour. They had an indie/alt/punk vibe. They had a lot of energy.
The bass player had an awesome
skullet that was almost as good as Devin Townsend’s. Besides that there isn’t
really much to say about their
show. They were good at what they do. Not spectacular, not bad. Check them out
if your into music that isn’t
metal.
HORSE the band are a band I have been waiting to see for quite some time now and
they did not disappoint.
Their show is simply awesome. After Criteria announced that the Fall of Troy
were playing after them, HORSE
came out, played a song, and then announced that they were really a HORSE the
band cover band. After that,
vocalist Nathan asked for change. Money was flying onto the stage. Someone
actually threw a ten dollar bill on
the stage. The energy that these guys have is insane. One of the most brutal
sets to sit through. They played
some favorites like “Cutsman”, “Bunnies”, and “Birdo”. They also hate Chiodos.
Don’t ever pass up an
opportunity to see them.
Before the show I had heard one song by the Fall of Troy and honestly I wasn‘t
really digging it. They are now
one of my favorite bands. They are far beyond technical. In no way do these guys
look heavy/metal but they are
one of the heaviest three pieces I have heard in a long time. There were a few
technical difficulties at the end, but
it didn’t alter their show. They are by far the best band I have ever seen live.
They are the epitome of what a performance should be. They were all over the
place. To be as technical as they are and to still be able to be all over the
place and still sound great is hard.
they pull it off. Go listen to them now.
Poison the Well’s set was the closest thing to disappointment I have felt at a
show. I love Poison the Well, but one little problem screwed up their entire
set. No one could hear the vocals. They were well aware of the problem, yet
nothing was done about it. The music was great. They are still one of the
earliest American metalcore bands and are still as brutal as when they started.
They played three new songs. Hopefully next time around the vocal quality is
much better
