Seneca - Reflections (Lifeforce)
It's kind of hard to believe that Seneca have been around for 7 years now
and have managed to completely fly under everyone's radar. Reflections is
the bands second full length and their debut for Lifeforce Records. The band
teamed up with producer Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me,
Killwhitneydead) and the production is flawless. Reflections hits you like a
ton of bricks. The band have crafted a perfect mix of brutal and melodic.
The album features some pretty fancy guitar work with sweeps thrown in all
over the place and some nasty breakdowns that will have you opening up a pit
in your room, most notably the track The 29th Day. At times the album will
give you a feel of fellow North Carolina natives and Lifeforce alumni
Between the Buried and Me as there are a lot of odd technical time
signatures on Reflections. The transitions from the low vocals to the clean
singing can be a little harsh at times, but overall its a minor detail that
you don't really notice after you spin the album a few times. Reflections is
a solid debut for the band on Lifeforce records and shouldn't be overlooked.
