I would like to think that I have a pretty open mind when it comes to the different types of music I listen to and the bands that I have in my cd collection. I love a lot extreme metal, especially efforts put out by Nuclear Blast, but as soon as I put in Gothic Kabbalah, my mind was closed. First off, the disc is 15 songs, but broken down to 99 tracks which is just annoying. Right off the bat I did not like this album. The operatic female vocals on the first track (or first 6 depending on how you look at it) are horrible. I could only stomach around 30 seconds before I skipped to the next actual song. After that, it just becomes a boring European metal album. The guitar work is nothing out of the ordinary. The solos are decent but that's about it. The drumming isn't all that bad, but when the vocals come in, they kill any potential this record might have had. I just can't get into the whole opera feel while I'm trying to get through a metal record. While I was listening to this, I felt as if I should take up Dungeons and Dragons, and that should never happen. I consider Nuclear Blast to be one of the best metal labels in the world, but they surely could have gone without releasing this album.
