The Rocket Summer - The Early Years (Militia Group)

Bryce Avery’s latest endeavor is a combination of his oldest music entitled “The Early Years”. Each song is basically a rough draft of the power pop music that he has previously released. This new release includes the ever popular “Teenage Love Rock” and five other tracks that never made it onto “Calendar Days” or “Hello, Good Friend”. Because it is a compilation of his earliest music, the quality is low in general and could be seen as unimpressive to a new listener. This album presents a look into the before and after when it comes to music production. It is also interesting to note that Bryce Avery produced the album entirely on his own and playing each instrument himself. Although this is certainly not his best work, it is quite impressive to think of how far his sound has come through the years. I would suggest listening to the other two albums before listening to “The Early Years” so that you can get a feel for his actual abilities.
