Ferret Under the Gun Tour
Where to even start with this show. Matt flew down from Jersey just for this show. We had set up three interviews for before the show. We were supposed to interview The Banner first, but the phone number we were given didn’t work and we couldn’t get a hold of their publicist. So we then called up Scarlet to conduct our interview with their drummer Andreas and singer Brandon. That went pretty smooth with the exception of some Nine Inch Nails blaring in the background near the end. After that was our Remembering Never interview. Needless to say, if you go watch the video, it was the best interview ever. Great bunch of guys.
The Banner opened up the show to a pretty good response. To me, they are definitely a band I enjoy more on CD. The sound quality just wasn’t there. The show that they put on was rather good though. A lot of movement, jumping, and a lot of brutal music.
Scarlet brought everything they had with them for their show. Bright lights everywhere. Smoke all across the stage. It was definitely the production that a headlining band would have. The intensity that Scarlet has is through the roof. Their new vocalist Brandon is spectacular. He hit every note perfectly and had a scream that was incredible. After having to drop off of their last tour with the Calico System, I was glad I finally got to see them and will go back to see them every time they come close again.
I am a fan of hardcore but the whole New York hardcore scene annoys me. I am not denying the fact that Madball are one of the most influential hardcore bands ever, but they are not my deal. The majority of the crowd was there for them. The only good thing I can say about their live set is that vocalist Freddy Cricien has the energy of a twelve year old on a sugar rush. That man never stopped. He was all over the place. They played a long set and I honestly felt it could have ended sooner.
Florida’s own Remembering Never headlined this show seeing as Zao had to drop off of the tour. Now to me, they didn’t play a long enough set. Blowing through tracks such as “Slaughterhouse Blues”, “The Grenade in Mouth Tragedy”, and “Incisions” the night ended too early. Vocalist Pete was just as rambunctious as Madball’s Freddy. One of the most brutal bands in the hardcore scene today happen to put on one of the most brutal shows you’ll see. Check them out as they go on tour with DevilDriver and Bury Your Dead.
