Whitechapel - The Somatic Defilement (Siege Of Amida Records)
If you are going to name your band after the district where Jack the Ripper
brutaly killed some hookers, you better live up to your name. In this case,
Whitechapel absolutely do. This is some of the most disgusting death
metal/death core that I have heard in a long time. I recently introduced a
friend to this band with the track Prostatic Fluid Asphyxiation, and after
hearing the song and reading the lyrics their only response was “EWW”. The
instrumentals on this album are as tight as could be and stand out amongst
the best in the genre. The guitar work is insanely fast and the
drumming is just as brutal. Of course having lyrics such as “As she
chokes and gargles spit/ I amputate her salty clitoris “ will garner some
attention as well. The growls/screams/gargles of Phil Bozeman are just as
intense as the rest of the band. I haven't enjoyed a death metal album
this much in a long time. From the first actual track The Somatic
Defilement to the last song Articulo Morti, this release will leave you
wanting more. This is one of the most impressive debut records I have
ever heard. Who knew a bunch of dudes from Knoxville, Tennessee could create
something so intricate yet vile. Check this out, it will tear you apart.
